The Passport Verification API validates passport authenticity by verifying the passport file number and date of birth against official government records. When validation is successful, the API returns the passport holder’s name, application type, application date, and verification status. This verification method is used by travel, hospitality, and compliance industries to confirm identity during bookings and check-ins to meet required security protocols.

Smart OCR for passport verification

You can verify passport details by uploading a scanned passport or its image using Smart OCR. The steps to use SMART OCR for verification are as follows:
  1. Log in to the Merchant Dashboard.
  2. Upload either the clear front or back side of the passport as an image or PDF.
Smart OCR identifies the document as a passport and extracts key data:
  • Passport number, holder’s full name, surname, given names
  • Date of birth, gender, nationality, issuing city and date, expiry date
  • MRZ or the Machine-Readable Zone lines for automated verification
  • Birth city, country code, and application type
Verification results are displayed instantly on the Merchant Dashboard.
Smart OCR is useful for scan or upload based or assisted workflows where users can’t manually input passport details.
Integrate passport verification using Cashfree’s Verification Suite APIs.
